South Bend Indiana Pennslyvania Station

The Union Station in SouthBend at one time served the NYC and the Grand Trunk Western.
The tracks were elevated through South Bend. These lines run essentially east/west and parallel to a portion of the old Studebaker assembly plant. This Pennslyvania station is at ground level on the other side of the Studebaker building. This is the end of the Vandalia Branch.

Here are two sets of photos of the LaPort Indiana Railroad Station. This first set were taken in 2001 and show an ill kept set of buildings. The second set were taken in November of 2009.
The Station is along the LSMS (New York Central ) water level route from New York City to Chicago. While Amtrak does pass here with two trains each way every day, it does not stop here anymore. The trains are the Capital Limited and the Lakeshore Limited.

Next will be a series of photos showing the station after being rehabilitated. The mode of the photos is much sunnier.

Chesterton Indiana Part two

Here are the last two pictures of the station. This building has looked the same for quite some time. It is well maintained and in good repair.

To the west of the passenger station is the freight station shown below. These pictures were taken several years ago and much has been done to the building. It is no longer a collectables store. It has been converted to a bread and breakfast place. I will post some updated pictures in the future.

Chesterton Indiana Part one

Here is the Station at Chesterton Indiana. This is a NYC station and will be posted in two parts. This station is currently occupied by the Duneland Chamber of Commerce.

Kouts

This depot was built by the Pennsylvania railroad and again I do not know it relationship to the Erie right of way.

North Judson

The following two older pictures were added on April 27th 2010. I purchased them From Jeff and John Strombeck. Hopefully I will be able to add the C&O station at some time.

Here is a photo of the PRR depot in North Judson taken by John Strombeck on Septmber 15, 1973. This station is no longer standing.Below is a photo of the combined NYC and Erie taken August 10,1047 by Harry Zillmer.

The depot pictured here is new. I am not sure if it is built a style used by any of the railroads that passed through here. They may also have been a C&O station of some kind as well. So although not really an Erie depot it is along the route.
